Winter Transition Time at Roots of Change

It's a new season and that means a new garden set up at Roots of Change! As the heat finally melts away and cooler temperatures and rain come through we need to change our crops to give our plants the best shot at thriving. So we cleared out the mint that was trying to take over our garden and replaced it with marigolds, brussel sprouts, and broccoli. Unfortunately our pumpkins did not survive the heat so we’re hoping to start fresh with our new crops. Both broccoli and brussels sprouts do well in the colder temps-they just need to survive until our temperatures drop.

Marigolds, also known as cempasúchil, are important flowers for many Latinx cultures because they are used on altars during Dia De Los Muertos celebrations. By growing them, we hope to center these cultures and celebrations.

If you'd like to come see the garden and hang out, we are still having Garden Open Hours every 1st and 3rd thursday 6-8pm. Our next open hours will be: November 2nd and November 16th.
