Winter phone banking promatorx job announcement

The Southwest Workers Union is an organization of low-income workers and families, community residents, and youth, united in one organizational movement for worker rights, environmental justice and community empowerment. SWU empowers and organizes members and supporters through education, leadership development, and direct actions. Our goal is to build a multi-generational grassroots power to create sustainable and systemic change for social, economic, and environmental justice.


We are seeking applicants part time phone banking positions. Our phone banking program will focus on protecting paid-sick time throughout San Antonio and across the state, as the 2019 legislative session gears up, paid-sick time is under attack. During the program our phone banking promotorxs will connect voters with their legislators through patch through calls in support of paid-sick time protections. The paid-sick time promotorx program will work closely with the Policy Coordinator in all upcoming campaign related projects.

General Responsibilities:


  1. Ensure all activities are carried out with SWU’s mission statement, values and vision.

  2. Meet daily phone banking goals.

  3. Must be able to multi-task (read scripts and log data with voters during each call)

  4. Learn to use the Voter Access Network program.

  5. Must be honest and accountable with data logging.

  6. Must understand the the current political climate and paid-sick time protections.


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bilingual is preferable but not required.

  • Ability to follow a script and be personable over the phone.

  • Willingness to participate in training programs to better understand the purpose of phone banking and the Voter Access Network.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Understanding of local politics and the primary process.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


  1. English literacy.

  2. Great communication skills.

  3. Great computer literacy and multitasking abilities.

  4. Experience and ease with speaking to strangers about important voting issues.

  5. Experience in working effectively or community organizing work.


PAY:


This is temporary position starting on March 4, 2019 and ending on April 10, 2019. Work schedule is set Tuesday through Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the duration of the campaign. Applicants must adhere to this schedule, Pay rate is $15.00 an hour totaling 15 hour a week.
