Member Orientation 2025

We held our first member meeting of 2025 this past Saturday. Every year we start off by having a member orientation to get everyone grounded by teaching some SWU history, our mission and values, what it means to be a member, and some popular education. This year we had a presentation on immigration as that has been a huge topic the past decade and, due to racism, directly affects our members as Spanish speakers and/or as BIPoC.

Many of our members expressed wanting to get involved in more mutual aid efforts and volunteering.

If you’re looking to get involved, here are our next upcoming events:

  • Elote Wednesday: Wed January 29th 3:30-5pm at 1416 E Commerce. Come build community with us as we all enjoy a cup of elote (every last wed of the month.)

  • Community Day: Saturday February 8th 10am at 1416 E Commerce. We will host a popular education session and then give out bags of fresh produce to community members.

  • Volunteer Block Walking: Every Tuesday from 12pm-3pm with a 30 min training. Help get the word out about the proposed upcoming CPS Rate Hike, immigration, and other important topics.

  • Volunteer Phone Banking: Every Thursday from 12pm-3pm with a 30 min training. Help get the word out about the proposed upcoming CPS Rate Hike, immigration, and other important topics
