Community Winter Distribution - Rapid Response

Starting early January, SWU staff began preparations to distribute heaters to at-risk community members facing harsher cold front conditions to address the need for portable, rapid heating solutions. We distributed 10 Small room heaters and 30 Large room heaters to grandmothers, isolated elders, mothers and children, and working fathers with the help of our Circulo Members; Without them our efforts would have surely stalled.

By reaching out to our local networks, we were able to move simultaneously on distributing 48 houseless kits for both men and women; The importance of feminine hygiene products were not lost on us, and we strived to make sure that the woman we distributed to were set and ready for the freeze.

Overall we spent $3,000 on this rapid response and it took us less than two weeks to fully distribute all resources to our communities. We hope that these heaters and kits are able to bring value to our members for many months to come; as a continuation of our previous fan-distribution work, we aspire to build upon our methods in order to better serve in the future.
