A Look Back at January-April in the Garden 2022

While we had a slow start to getting seeds into the dirt this year, we focused heavily on growing community with other local growers. We celebrated Black History Month by interviewing local Black gardeners and writing blog posts highlighting each one. This really helped us to initiate and foster relationships with other growers of color in San Antonio. In March we had two workdays including a class on grow bags. We taught community members about container gardening, herbs, and cost saving tips for gardening on a budget. Together we were able to assemble 50 grow bags which we gave away to even more community members as part of our food sovereignty initiatives. By giving out the mini herb gardens we hoped to start a convo about growing our own food in our own homes and how we can truly "garden everywhere"-even if all we have is a patio or windowsill. In April we celebrated Earth Day with a workday in which we planted flowers and learned about the importance of composting. We also weeded and harvested from the medicinal gardens which sent medicinal herbs into our communities.
